Cymdeithas Bethlehem |
Dyffryn Ceidrych Association |
The Association had its beginnings in early 2000 when a small group got together to convert the recently closed
school into a community hall to provide a focal point for village events and activities. In January 2002, the
council agreed a 2 year lease to allow funds to be raised for the purchase (£25,000) and renovation (£120,000).
The hall was then spruced up and opened for a series of successful events - Easter egg hunts, twmpathau, barbeques,
summer fairs, fireworks and hallowe'en parties. There was a weekly parent and toddler group and welsh classes and a monthly
Country Women's Association meeting.
In 2004, funding was raised to allow the School to be purchased and in 2007 a Lottery grant was won (which is nearly
used-up) to complete the renovations. The association are now plannning events and classes to provide facilities and services for
the entire community and to raise money to ensure that the School is maintained for future generations.
The association has been officially constituted as a limited company (limited by guarantee) and as a charity.
As the association exists for the benefit of all of us within the area of Bethlehem and Dyffryn Ceidrych, it is here
to ensure that the Old School is used for everyone's benefit. To that end a Management Committee is elected to be responsible
for the day-to-day running and maintenance of the Centre with elections held annually at the AGM.
The Management Committee hold meetings in the Meeting Room at the Old School once a month (currently usually on Wednesday
evening) to which everyone is invited to participate.
The association is a membership assocation and membership is open to anyone resident or employed within the Bethlehem and
Dyffryn Ceidrych area. We are currently developing our membership scheme, please contact us if you are interested.
